Amboseli, Kenya
Tortilis Camp
Tortilis Camp is a camp in Amboseli, Kenya.
Luxury Views in a Popular Lodge
One of the larger camps in the area, Tortilis Camp has a good reputation for offering a very comfortable and rather luxurious stay while visiting this iconic region. The lodge is actually situated in an acacia tree woodland area with fantastic views of Africa’s highest mountain. The lodge has access to a private 30,000-acre concession area which allows you to escape the more popular throng of the park and also gives you the chance to enjoy night drives to scout out the more mysterious African beasts.
There are 16 very spacious en-suite tents, each featuring an en-suite bathroom and a spacious verandah offering views of the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro. The new family tent and private house are another great addition to this child-friendly safari camp. The family tent consists of one double en-suite bedroom, one twin en-suite bedroom and a spacious private verandah. The private house consists of one en-suite double bedroom, one en-suite triple bedroom and a spacious sitting/dining room with verandah. A swimming pool is shared between the family tent and the private house.
Tortilis Camp has a spacious dining room overlooking Mt. Kilimanjaro, where guests eat at their own individual tables. Canapes are served in the bar and lounge before dinner, where their homegrown salads and vegetables are served.
Elephants in this area do come in huge numbers, and the area is home to elephant families who have been closely studied by a very interesting researched called Cynthia Moss for over 25 years. The guides at the camp know the elephants well and are keen to divulge the habits and characteristics of the few they have spent time getting to know over the course of the years. The Research Centre is a very interesting activity that you can pre-arrange to visit and will give you more insight into the largest land animal in the world.
