Ol Donyo Lodge

Amid the vast plains of the Mbirikani Group Ranch, Ol Donyo Lodge offers awe-inspiring views of the Chyulu Hills Mountain Range, with the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro visible in the distance. The wild allure of the East African bush is ever-present. From the comfort of the lodge, you can hear the guttural roars of lions and the yelps of hyenas, as the drama of the savanna unfolds right before you.

Comprising only a few private suites, including a two-bedroom family unit, they all enjoy plunge pools, outdoor showers and roof terraces where intimate ‘star beds’ can be set up, letting you experience the pure bliss of sleeping under a canopy of stars in tune with nature’s soundtrack. On the inside, earthy tones create a sense of warmth, while wildlife photography and local craftwork add personality.

The main dining area, perched high on a hillside, hosts relaxed lunches and candlelit dinners. Some steps below, you can sink into the infinity pool to cool off from the midday heat. There is also a convivial outdoor fireplace and a pair of viewing hides, from which you can observe enormous tusker elephants as they chug water from the adjacent waterhole. For pampering, calming treatments happen in various locations open to the wilderness and its thrilling inhabitants.

The lodge keeps its wide, secluded setting in mind, with many possibilities to explore the land. Guided bush walks offer insight into the finer details of the bush. Head out on game drives day and night or venture further afield on a bike.  Another highlight is visits to a local Maasai homestead. Sustainability drives the lodge’s ethos; they take great pride in their strong relationship with the local Maasai community with whom they share the land.
