Nyamirambo Women's Centre

Gain an intimate insight into Rwandan life and culture from women’s perspectives with the Nyamirambo Women’s Centre, which trains women from the community as guides who share their daily lives and traditions with guests. During this experience, you’ll delve into the art of sisal basket weaving, which can be seen all around Rwanda. It’s a time-intensive and historically significant practice which involves weaving hand-dyed sisal fibers around a sweetgrass core. During your time at the workshop, you’ll have the chance to try it for yourself, weaving a small token of your choice under the guidance of the expert women weavers, who’ll teach you about the wider production process. Finish your experience with a traditional lunch made and served in the home of Aminatha, Nyamirambo Women’s Centre’s best cook.
