Luxury Travel to Don Daeng made for you
Laos
Secluded Mekong island overlooking the Wat Phou ruins
A secluded Mekong island, Don Daeng overlooks the UNESCO protected heritage site and pre Angkorian Khmer ruins of Wat Phou.
The island makes up part of the picturesque riverine archipelago of 4,000 islands where there are options of enjoying striking and tranquil excursions on the river. The lucky may even catch a glimpse of the rare Irrawaddy river dolphin sometimes spotted in these waters.
Don Daeng gives those that venture here an interesting insight into rural Laotian life, such as views of water buffalo’s bathing and fishermen flinging nets. By bicycle or on foot, take the time to witness the natural beauty and unspoilt charm of the island. Appreciate the villagers’ traditional and simple lives, as well as experiencing first hand their friendly and welcoming nature.
From the island it’s also a short journey to Champasak – a sleepy Laos town with a handful of colonial buildings and pretty wooden houses with Chinese shop fronts and small restaurants along the main road and waterfront.
