Outside of the city limits, the region is highly biodiverse; a trip out to the Bako National Park will allow you to view a variety of distinct rainforest ecosystems, home to macaque proboscis monkeys, wild boar, flying squirrels and monitor lizards to name a few of the many animal species making this region a worthwhile visit.
