Le Vieux Logis

Riverside manor house in the heart of Dordogne

  • Hotel

Michelin-starred country hotel surrounded by the French countryside

Le Vieux Logis occupies a former manor house in Trémolat, a village in the Périgord Noir region of Dordogne, an area of France known for its medieval castles and decorated caves.

Run by the same family for generations, Le Vieux Logis is a charming Relais & Châteaux hotel set in a honey-coloured stone manor draped in climbing roses and wisteria, with formal gardens and orchards. The rooms are spread between the house, garden buildings and several independent cottages. Inside, exposed beams and stone walls are complemented by antique furnishings and French country fabrics. Several of the suites open onto their own private terraces or small gardens.

The defining experience at Le Vieux Logis is its Michelin-starred restaurant, serving seasonal menus by Chef Vincent Arnould, who was the 2007 Meilleur Ouvrier de France, one of the highest professional honours for chefs. Ingredients from the Dordogne and wider Périgord region feature heavily, particularly black truffles, walnuts, porcini mushrooms and duck. The more relaxed Bistrot d’en Face offers regional classics in a village setting opposite the hotel.

Le Vieux Logis works particularly well as a base for exploring the Dordogne Valley. Nearby excursions include canoeing on the Dordogne River, visits to the medieval town of Sarlat, the gardens of Marqueyssac and prehistoric sites, including the celebrated painted caves of Lascaux.
