Itinerary in detail

Every trip is shaped around you. Below is a sample route to start from; we change any part of it to suit you.

Days 1-4

Three nights in San Sebastián

The sophisticated and shimmering city of San Sebastián in the north of Spain sits at the mouth of the River Urumea, looking out on to the Bay of Biscay, with the natural beauty of Mount Urgull, Mount Ulia, Mount Adarra and Mount Igeldo at its back. It’s the city’s fabled elegant architecture, spacious plazas and plentiful green parks that has led to its moniker as the ‘Pearl of Northern Spain’.

A Pintxos adventure

Spend a day wandering through San Sebastián’s cobbled streets and visiting local hangouts, artisan shops and food markets with a local expert. You’ll experience the authentic Spanish lifestyle as your host whisks you off to one of their favourite pintxos spots paired with wine, where you’ll sample some of the city’s most emblematic small dishes, along with a few off-the-menu items only locals know about.

Days 5-7

Three nights in La Rioja

Internationally famous for the quality of its produce, the wines that bear its name, La Rioja showcases more than 500 wineries nestled in vast vineyards. Discover tiny family owned and operated bodegas alongside huge industrial producers.

La Rioja also presents a beautifully varied landscape of forests, Iberian mountain ranges, lunar-like landscapes and no less than seven rivers.

Rioja in a nutshell

Enjoy a crash course into the legendary area of La Sonsierra in La Rioja as you traverse the medieval villages of Briones, San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Haro, and taste the bold flavours this region is known for. Within Laguardia, one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, enjoy a private visit and wine tasting to a family-owned winery. Then, at Ysios Winery, be awestruck by the surprising architecture of Santiago Calatrava, which emerges straight out of the rocky mountainous landscape to create a winery like you’ve never seen before.

Days 8-9

Two nights in the Duero Valley

There’s no denying the mighty grape is the beating heart of Riberia del Duero, but be sure to go exploring beyond the vineyards. Spanning four provinces, the area is rich in culture, with several magnificent castles to discover, such as the Peñaranda de Duero in Burgos and the Peñafiel in Valladolid.

An exploration of the Ribera del Duero wine region

Ribera del Duero is one of Spain’s most distinguished wine-growing regions, and an essential destination for any wine enthusiast. Embark on an all-inclusive excursion from Madrid to the rocky plateau of Castile and León, where you’ll find incredible vineyards and award-winning wineries galore.

Upon your arrival to Peñafiel your host will be waiting at the corner of Calle Infante Don Juan Manuel and Calle de los Destiladeros. Meet the artisanal cheese makers of Roa de Duero and the family-run Bodegas López Cristóbal, winery where you will be treated to a private visit and wine tasting.

Days 10-11

Two nights in Madrid

Madrid is one of Europe’s most vibrant and lively capitals, from its impressive architecture and world class museums to its high-end shops and renowned restaurants. This sunny city may be rich in history, but it’s also on the cutting edge of culture and commerce.

Welcoming locals, bustling streets and buzzing nightlife are just a few reasons why travellers flock to the Spanish capital, ready to stroll its cobbled streets and feel the unique energy that makes it come alive.

Tapas tastings

This evening your insider host will whisk you off on a vibrant outing to one of our favourite spots in the city. Sample the most emblematic tapas, letting your host guide you through the menu (and off the menu, for those dishes available only to the “in-the-know”) and spilling the secrets of what makes each plate special. Indulge in tasty tapas and wine to your hearts content as you learn about the Madrid lifestyle.

Markets of Madrid

Madrid has many flavours, from the ubiquitous tortilla española (Spanish omelet) to homemade cocido madrileño (a hearty local specialty). It’s impossible to taste them all in one day, of course, so your local guide will handpick the most delicious highlights. They’ll show you the city’s best shops, selling everything from wine and cheese to artisanal olive oil, so you can take a bit of Spain home and taste local specialties like Manchego cheese and jamon Ibérico.
