Six Senses Gangtey
Staggering views and contemporary design
Contemporary design in an important conservation area
Just south of the black-necked crane conservation area in the Phobjikha Valley, past fields dotted with prayer flags and farms, is the Six Senses Gangtey. Boasting 180 degree views of the valley and situated directly above the crane Conservation Center – this is a must-visit for any wildlife and nature enthusiast. In fact, the lodge’s main building, the “Traditional Bird Watching Bridge” provides the perfect place for crane spotting.
The building itself is made of yellow washed sandstone with pagoda style roofing and grey flagstones for the outside flooring. Inside there’s lots of glowing amber wood on the floors, walls and used to create the furniture. A completely sophisticated and contemporary design that embraces nature and the surrounding cultural identity wholeheartedly. Massive picture windows seem to lure you to the outdoors. From the hotel’s elevation the spectacular views go on for miles, the rugged land appearing smooth and wistful as the clouds cast a constant moving shadow of light and dark.
The lodge features spacious 8 suites and 1 large villa which is perfect for groups or families. There’s a grand arrival terrace where guests can catch their first glimpse of Gantey’s unique views. The other social areas consist of a library, living room and lounge, a fire pit relaxation area and the Baa Zam restaurant. The Six Senses Spa is a haven of relaxation with treatments and therapies featuring both Bhutanese and international techniques. There’s 2 treatment rooms and finally 2 Swedish steam areas.
