Six Senses Laamu

Island paradise in the Maldives

  • Hotel

A tropical island oasis

An inter-island flight from Malé Airport and a short boat ride takes you to this tropical playground, and with 97 beach and water villas, Six Senses Laamu is the only five-star resort in the Maldives‘ Laamu Atoll. Sustainability is central to this eco-conscious resort’s operations, and several programmes are implemented to uplift the local community and protect the surrounding ecosystems.

The villas have been tastefully constructed using sustainable materials and all have large private balconies with sun loungers, allowing you to immerse yourself in the tranquil beauty of the Maldives. The villas also encompass a private outdoor shower and an upper deck for romantic sunset dinners.

All dining tastes are taken care of on this privately-owned island, with local and international cuisines on offer in an array of settings. Longitude serves both buffet and à la carte breakfasts before transforming into a show-stopping dining experience come nightfall, with themed dinners and live cooking nights. Between the other restaurants, you’ll find organic Mediterranean menus, casual poolside dining, Japanese Omakase and a Teppanyaki experience. End the night with a glass of your favourite wine at the Altitude Wine Cellar, or with one of 48 unique and locally inspired ice cream flavours from the ice cream parlour.

The waters surrounding the Laamu Atoll are wonderful for diving, with schools of tropical fish and colourful coral waiting beneath the surface. Learn more about what you might find beneath the waves, as well as the work being done to protect it, at the Sea Hub of Environmental Learning in Laamu (SHELL) research and education centre.

As well as the wealth of water sports on offer, other activities such as movie screenings in the jungle, deluxe spa treatments, sunset dhoni cruises, sand dune dining and yoga and aerobics classes are available.

The impact of your stay:

  • Visit the resort’s Sea Hub of Environmental Learning in Laamu (SHELL), a marine science research and education centre, to discover the resort’s active role in protecting the Maldives’ marine life. Six Senses Laamu works with other organisations as part of the Maldives Underwater Initiative, which drives meaningful conservation through research, education and community engagement. Their current projects span a wide range of subjects including megafauna (large animals), sea turtles and their nests, manta rays, reef fish, and marine protected areas.
  • You can also witness reef restoration in action. Since 2020, Six Senses Laamu has been leading a reef restoration project, which involves coral spawning, collecting gametes and growing corals in nurseries. Along with the MUI team, they have also started a micro-fragmentation project to help vulnerable coral species recover from bleaching and other threats.
  • Six Senses Laamu is also known for protecting seagrass meadows – once routinely cleared by resorts – setting a new standard for the Maldives. Today, these thriving ecosystems cover more than 350,000 square metres, providing food and shelter for multiple fish species. Join a guided snorkelling tour to see this underwater world come to life.
  • Your stay also supports the hotel’s Sustainability Fund, which backs community-led projects across the Laamu Atoll – from installing clean water filters and supporting schools to providing supplies for local clinics.Through the Laamaseelu Masveriya initiative, the resort partners with local reef fishers to create a transparent reef fish supply chain that benefits both the community and the ocean it depends on.
