Itinerary in detail
Every trip is shaped around you. Below is a sample route to start from; we change any part of it to suit you.
Days 1-4
Family-friendly Mexico City
Mexico City is a wonderful, colourful destination for families, particularly those who like delicious food, cultural activities and adventure. There’s vast parks, child-friendly museums and Mexican wrestling to discover, plus eating out as a family is the norm, even in the best restaurants.

Where you could stay
Days 5-6
San Cristobal and the Chiapas highlands
In the mountains of Chiapas province, San Cristobal de las Casas has pastel-coloured houses lining cobbled streets, plus churches, markets and charming cafes. The surrounding Mayan villages help make this one of Mexico’s most ethnically diverse areas, and you’ll gain a real insight into Indigenous communities and highland life.

Where you could stay
Days 7-8
The jungle ruins of Palenque
The modern town of Palenque serves as a base to the UNESCO World Heritage archeological site. The best hotels are out of town, closer to the ancient ruins of Palenque, surrounded by jungle and close to rivers and waterfalls.

Where you could stay
Days 9-11
Charming Mérida, Yucatán’s capital
Mérida, the elegant capital of Yucatán, offers a perfect blend of ancient Mayan heritage, beautiful colonial architecture and modern comforts (its streets are some of the safest in North America). The artsy and inviting city centre – with its colourful local crafts and souvenir markets – is compact and walkable and Mérida serves as the perfect base for exciting day trips to Mayan ruins.

Where you could stay
Days 12-14
The Mayan Riviera on the Caribbean coast
The Mayan Riviera is a family paradise, where pristine white sand beaches are met by calm turquoise waters perfect for swimming. Just offshore is the world’s second-largest coral reef – diving and snorkelling are popular pastimes – and nearby you’ll find cenotes and ancient Mayan architectural sites.
