Itinerary in detail

Every trip is shaped around you. Below is a sample route to start from; we change any part of it to suit you.

Days 1-4

A memorable Sacred Valley adventure

Your journey begins with three days to explore the Sacred Valley while staying at Hotel Rio Sagrado, a luxurious, privately–owned estate. The valley is home to many Indigenous people, and their culture and traditions pervade to this day, offering multiple opportunities for education and an authentic glimpse into rural Peruvian life. Learn about Inca heritage and traditional Quechua culture and history and how they helped to shape modern Peru. Round off your stay with privately guided tours of local markets and meeting traditional artisans and crafters.

Day 5

The awe–inspiring lost city of Machu Picchu

There’s a reason that Machu Picchu is high on every round up of bucket list destinations. Visiting the Lost City is like stepping into another world. The awe–inspiring UNESCO World Heritage Site is perched on a mountain ridge some 2,400m above sea level and commands jaw–dropping views over the surrounding landscapes.

As well as an in–depth private tour, we recommend that you take some time to explore the ruins by yourself – you could even climb Huayna Picchu for an alternative view. Your Jacada travel designer will help you decide on the best option for your trip and make sure that you have the Machu Picchu experience you’ve been dreaming of.

Days 6-7

Peru’s former Incan capital

Your time in Peru finishes in Cusco, capital of the Incan Empire from the early 14th century until its Spanish conquest. Our guides will tour the city with you, not only explaining its history, but also the hidden secrets of today’s city, from delectable restaurants to local artisans’ workshops. You’ll also visit the neighbourhood of San Blas with its beautiful colonial church.

Discover Cusco’s culinary secrets

Your guide will collect you from your hotel to begin your day with a visit to Cusco’s central market, a wonderful way to discover the Andean culture and daily life. This is a vibrant spot, with dazzling displays of fresh produce and fascinating local products. Next, learn how to turn these fresh ingredients into Peruvian favourites at Limo restaurant.

You can also visit the family–friendly ChocoMuseo to learn about the history of cacao in Peru and enjoy a 30-minute chocolate workshop.

Days 8-9

UNESCO’s first World Heritage Site

Ecuador’s capital, one of the highest in the world, is a fascinating mix of historical charm and striking modernity, with contrasts found around every corner of this dynamic but modest city. A tour of the 16th century colonial area of Quito is recommended, where buildings include Independence Square, San Francisco and La Compañía churches. The tour continues with a visit to Itchimbía Hill from where you can have a wonderful view of downtown Quito and the surrounding mountains.

See Galápagos wildlife up close

Surely one of the most amazing places on Earth, the Galápagos Islands are perhaps the only place in the world where you can see wildlife so close up. The lack of large predators on the island group (which sits 600 miles from the Ecuadorian mainland) means that its iconic wildlife – giant tortoises, green sea turtles, vibrant birdlife, inquisitive sea lions and so much more – are fearless of humans.

You will enjoy small group excursions by inflatable ‘panga’ zodiac boats to snorkel and see the dense marine wildlife, as well as varied nature trails with your guides to the different islands on your itinerary to explore both the wildlife and the astonishing geology of the islands.
