Itinerary in detail

Every trip is shaped around you. Below is a sample route to start from; we change any part of it to suit you.

Days 1-4

An enriching safari in Kwandwe

Located on the Eastern Cape, Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is one of the largest private reserves in South Africa. Spanning restored farmland, this wilderness stretches across 74,000 acres on either side of the Great Fish River – and seven of South Africa’s eight biomes. Plus it’s malaria-free, making it an ideal destination for families.

Enjoy game drives and bush walks

In this corner of spekboom-studded plains, expect impressive biodiversity. Game drives offer the chance to spot the Big Five alongside rare species like the blue crane, black-footed cat and crowned eagle. You can also track elephants and buffalos through the bush on foot.

Days 5-7

Explore South Africa’s oldest city

After exciting game drives on the Eastern Cape, swap the bush for Cape Town’s cosmopolitan culture. Soak up the buzz of the waterfront, lined with boutiques and bistros. Then ascend Table Mountain where views pan out across Robben Island and Table Bay.

Beyond the city, the Cape Peninsula unfolds in a dramatic display of coastal beauty. Wind your way along scenic routes that trace cliffs and mountainside. Here, discover the exceptional diversity in plant life alongside historic villages and soft-sand beaches.

Discover the best of the Cape Peninsula

At the southern tip of South Africa’s Cape Peninsula, experience the wonders of the Cape Point Nature Reserve. Journey along rocky coastline to see sugar white beaches and native fynbos. As you explore, keep your eyes peeled for ostriches and Cape sugarbirds. Then, head for Boulders Beach to witness African penguins in their natural habitat. Or visit the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens to admire endemic plants framed by the slopes and summits of Table Mountain.

Days 8-9

To the Whale Coast

In just two hours from Cape Town by car, you’ll reach Grootbos Private Reserve on the Whale Coast – a playground for adventure between forest, mountains and sea.

Spend your days appreciating the beauty that surrounds you here. Guided hikes take you through fynbos and millennia-old milkwood forest. Along the winding paths, scan the trees for rare black harriers darting between the branches.

Around July to November, search for migrating southern right whales from the cliffs. Or see the ocean from another angle as you explore wild shorelines on horseback.

Spot whales in the wild

Staying in Grootbos grants you a front-row seat to spectacular sightings of southern right whales. Between June and November, they migrate to warmer waters from Antarctica. Marvel as they leap from the waves, just offshore. Or set out by boat to cruise beside these majestic giants, keeping your eyes peeled for dolphins along the way.

“Dream trip to South Africa”

Jacada did a fantastic job listening to what we wanted and designing a trip that showed us the best parts of Cape Town, Winelands, the Whale Coast and safari. The lodging was all fantastic, the food was wonderful and all of the people that we met were kind and welcoming. We particularly enjoyed our time in Grootbos and Sabi Sabi.…
