Where to go

When to Visit

The best time to visit Thailand is during its dry season. For most parts of the country, this would be between November and March, extending into April and May for some regions. Thailand is characterised by the rainy, hot and cool seasons. The north is less humid and experiences the greatest range of temperatures with cold nights during the cool season. The temperatures are more consistent in southern Thailand but the Andaman coast is hit hardest during the rainy season (October to December).

Ask our experts

Which Thai islands are best for families?

One of the best Thai islands for families is Koh Samui because it’s home to a wide range of family-friendly accommodation options and activities for all ages. Some of our favourite family things to do on Koh Samui include a private boat trip to Angthong Marine Park to snorkel, or relaxing on its white sandy beaches with turquoise waters.

What are the best family experiences in Thailand?

Some of the best family experiences in Thailand include outdoor and wildlife focussed activities that allow families to engage with their surroundings. We recommend snorkelling and private boat trips on the coast or rainforest safaris to spot elephants and other wildlife. Families with older children will also enjoy street food tours or cooking classes in Bangkok to taste exciting Thai cuisine.

What Thai cultural considerations should we be mindful of?

One of the main cultural considerations that you should be mindful of when visiting Thailand is your attire when visiting temples. It’s important to dress modestly, with shoulders and legs covered, and you will be expected to remove your shoes before entering. This also applies to children. You should also be respectful of the monarchy and images of Buddha.

Where can we see Thailand's elephants and other wildlife?

The best place to see Thailand’s elephants in the wild is in Kui Buri National Park, as there are more than 300 elephants living within the park. Your guide will take you on a tour of the park in a Jeep to spot where the herds might be grazing. You can also see plenty of other Thai wildlife here, including gaurs (Indian bison) and gibbons.
