The Bird

Just a stone’s throw from some of Bath’s most notable sights, including the famous Roman baths and Pulteney Bridge, The Bird is a boutique hotel that embodies the tradition and heritage of its historic location, while injecting an uplifting dose of fun and flair.

Once a grand Victorian mansion, it’s been turned into a 29 room hotel which oozes pizzazz. The Bird’s playful sense of style comes through in the form of eclectic décor – bird motifs feature heavily throughout, on crockery, lampshades and soft furnishings, and the individually styled rooms boast flashes of colour in the form of pink bathroom tiles, jazzy chandeliers or eye-catching modern art. Afternoon tea is available daily, and is just as colourful as you’d expect from seeing the rest of the hotel. As well as an indoor restaurant, their garden terrace restaurant, Plate, is a sun-soaked spot where you can savour locally sourced, seasonal dishes alongside uninterrupted views of Bath Abbey. Wash it down with one of their playfully named bird cocktails, the perfect way to end a day of exploration.

The city itself weaves a tapestry of quintessentially English things to do, from its Georgian history and Jane Austen walking tours (and even an annual festival in her honour), to cricket and rugby, both of which take place in Bath Recreation Ground, which The Bird overlooks. The well-preserved Roman baths from which the city gets its name, as well as their contemporary thermal spa counterpart, are also worth a visit.
