Itinerary in detail

Every trip is shaped around you. Below is a sample route to start from; we change any part of it to suit you.

Days 1-4

Discover the easy-going city of Bergen

You’ll start your exploration on land, specifically in Bergen, Norway’s UNESCO gateway city to the fjords. Filled with history and tradition, this big city enjoys a small-town charm and is easily explored on foot. Stroll around the fairy-tale-like old cobbled streets and small wooden houses and discover Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf, defined by a line of colourful heritage buildings, as well as the city’s fish market, and take a trip up the funicular to Mount Floyen for remarkable views back across Bergen.

A visit to Rosendale Barony and its gardens

In 1678 King Christian V of Denmark gave the estate the status of the barony – the only one of its kind in Norway. Today the farm has a total area of approximately 1200 hectares, including 200 hectares of farmland and 1000 hectares forest. The residence consists of three two-story wings together built around a square courtyard. The building is now a museum. The garden of the Barony is often referred to as the most magnificent Victorian garden in Norway.

Days 5-6

Spend time in the arctic capital

Green and lit by the midnight sun in the summer, covered in snow and illuminated by the northern lights in winter, Tromso offers an excellent base from which to launch your own polar expedition further north. During your stay you will enjoy a private tour of Tromso to acquaint yourself with the vibrant city and visit some of its best museums. During the tour you will see the Polar museum and Polaria, the world’s most northerly aquarium.

Days 7-10

A seafaring adventure to the Svalbard Islands

Sat in the Arctic Ocean halfway between Norway and the North Pole, the Svalbard archipelago is your only destination when it comes to exploring the fierce, arctic tundra and its inhabitants. More than half covered by glaciers, the island group supports seven national parks and 23 nature reserves protecting a largely untouched natural environment, rich in rare wildlife. Its environs are home to polar bears, reindeer, arctic fox, sea birds and whales.

You might visit Ny-Alesund, the northernmost settlement in the world, before sailing towards the Krossfjorden. Then it could be on to Alkefjellet and to see remains from both the Russian and the Dutch whaling period in Trygghamna before heading back to Longyearbyen.

Days 11-12

Explore the lively city of Oslo

Sitting at the head of a fjord, with the forests behind it, the Norwegian Capital of Oslo is gifted with a unique combination of vibrant city life and easy access to the outdoors. Your local guide will introduce you to some of the city’s most important and interesting sites,  including the Viking Ship Museum where you will learn all about the Scandinavians who explored Europe by its seas and rivers, and the open-air Norwegian Folk Museum, the country’s largest museum of cultural history.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the beautiful Vigeland Sculpture Park is the perfect place for a stroll and skiing is possible on the snow clad slopes of the Tryvann.
