Amazon Field Station byInkaterra

Initially set up as a training facility for Inkaterra’s guides and research centre for scientists, the Field Station has now opened its doors to travellers eager to engage in different projects and experience the Amazon rainforest in an authentic and scholarly way.

Located deep inside the the vast Tambopata National Reserve, you’ll be immersed in one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world where 540 bird species and over 100 mammal species (and counting) have been registered.

Hosted by expert guides, days here start at dawn, embarking on a number of hands-on excursions such as nature hikes through the forest and wetlands, learning about local flora and fauna while recording what you find. Cruise the Madre de Dios River at night in search of capybaras, white caimans and nightjars and climb the Canopy Walkway, a system of observation towers, platforms and hanging bridges 30m (100 feet) above the ground to get a unique view of the rainforest canopy and a chance for incredible birdwatching. You can also visit the model farm in a nearby local community to see how Inkaterra is helping people grow food in a way that benefits the forest, and learn from scientists in the research room and on site laboratory.

The station can host up to 20 guests in basic but comfortable shared cabañas and two pavilions, with a shared dining area serving up wonderful Peruvian food with many ingredients from the station’s bio orchard and model farm, as well as a friendly bar the place to go for pisco and beers.
