Luxury Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve Tours made for you
Home to four species of turtles and other wildlife
Conservation and education are the top priorities
Gentle waves lap the golden shore as hundreds of newly-hatched sea turtles push their way across the sand to the water – all under the watchful eyes of the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Centre team. Situated on the eastern shores of the Arabian Peninsula, the beach of the fishing village of Ras Al Jinz is known for nesting endangered green turtles.
Among the most important nesting concentrations on the Indian Ocean, Ras Al Jinz is also the only official place where you can watch their fascinating nesting process, making it a highlight of any trip to Oman.
The turtle reserve itself was established in 1996 with the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Centre following in 2008. The eco-tourism project aims to help protect and conserve the nesting processes of the turtles. While natural threats to the eggs and young hatchlings, like birds, crabs and other marine creatures cannot be controlled, the centre, together with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, is devoted to education and minimising the impact humans have on their survival. Spend time at the interactive museum and research laboratories where visitors of all ages can learn more.
In addition to the endangered green turtles, the reserve is also home to Olive Ridley turtles, loggerhead turtles and endangered hawksbill turtles. Nightly excursions to see the nesting creatures are led by highly knowledgeable guides who are able to tell you most about the region’s unique landscapes and other wildlife inhabitants.
