South African lodge combining mountain adventures, wildlife and conservation

Few & Far Luvhondo is a luxury safari lodge set high in the Soutpansberg Mountains, within the UNESCO-recognised Vhembe Biosphere Reserve in South Africa’s northern Limpopo Province. The lodge looks out across forested valleys, rocky escarpments and ancient baobab trees. Sustainability is woven into the experience, supporting long-term conservation initiatives across the region.

You’ll stay in one of six Cliff Suites set along the mountainside. Each has floor-to-ceiling glass, a private deck and a plunge pool overlooking the wilderness. The suites were built using heat-treated eucalyptus sourced from trees on the reserve, and the lodge is fully powered by renewable energy. Few & Far Luvhondo also operates a zero-waste model. Water is bottled on site using a UV filtration system, and black soldier flies help convert food waste into compost.

Go on game drives to spot big game across the reserve. And look out for Samango monkeys, agile forest-dwelling primates known for leaping through the canopy. Active days can include guided hikes and mountain biking along winding reserve trails.

We especially recommend the cultural experiences, where you can learn about local traditions through drumming, dance and storytelling. Among our other favourites are shadowing a conservationist for the day, sleeping out under the stars or taking a day trip to nearby Mapungubwe National Park – one of South Africa’s most important archaeological and cultural sites.
