Itinerary in detail

Every trip is shaped around you. Below is a sample route to start from; we change any part of it to suit you.

Days 1-2

One night in Buenos Aires

Your adventure begins in the vibrant city of Buenos Aires, the historic home of tango and now to a vibrant modern scene of restaurants, bars and culture. Take a tour through its elegant districts, wander down cobbled alleys and collect stories and anecdotes along the way.

Spend time relaxing and exploring the city’s wonders. You’ll have our top recommendations for activities, restaurants and shopping so that you can make the most of your time here. We can always organise additional privately guided tours (perhaps focused on history, culture or art) as well as more specialist excursions such as personal shopping trips, wine tasting and tango lessons.

Day 3

A day in Ushuaia

Enjoy a day at ‘the ends of the earth’ in the world’s southernmost city, Ushuaia. There’s lots to do in this part of Argentina where succulent lamb dishes are served for dinner and the intermittent rolling clouds and brilliant sunshine cast dramatic shadows over the equally exciting landscapes. You can take a private tour to learn about history or head out on a kayak to explore the Tierra Del Fuego National Park, or perhaps relax at your hotel with a unique view of Patagonia before you.

Guided tour of Ushuaia

On an action-packed day of exploring, your private local guide will pick you up in the morning to first of all take a boat trip across the famous Beagle Channel, following in the (watery) footsteps of Charles Darwin on his expedition. Next, board the Austral Fuegino (also known as the train at the end of the world); a historic, narrow gauge steam train that will take you along a scenic route into the Lapataia National Park. Here you will explore further before heading back to your hotel in Ushuaia.

Days 4-7

A five day cruise from Ushuaia to Punta Arenas

Board your cruise ship at ‘the ends of the earth’ in Ushuaia and make your way up to the small port town of Punta Arenas. You’ll spend your days cruising the fjords before heading out to the open sea to reach Cape Horn. During the evenings, delicious gourmet dinners are served, drinks at the bar are enjoyed and there’s often lectures, briefings and chats with guides and crew. Each day there will be new excursions where you hop aboard a zodiac (small motor boat) to discover small channels or make landings for nature walks and stunning viewpoints.

Seals & penguins

On day two you will hopefully have the chance to witness some of the area’s wondrous wildlife. During a nature walk at Beaver Dam, through a spectacular Magellanic forest, you’ll reach a beach to observe elephant seals. Then later on a zodiac ride to Tuckers Islets you can look out for Magellanic Penguins and Cormorants.

Days 8-11

Four days exploring Torres del Paine

Renowned the world over for its breathtaking natural beauty and unparalleled hiking routes, Torres del Paine is a must–do on any tour of Chile. Depending on the lodgings you have chosen and your individual preferences your travel designer can design a program of activities featuring a whole host of different and diverse ways to explore and encounter these iconic landscapes. From hiking to horseback rides with gauchos, the rivers, lakes, mountains and glaciers here are incredible places to explore, and you’ll be spoilt for choice when building out your daily activities.

Days 12-13

Two days exploring the Glacier Region around El Calafate

Next, it’s on to the Glacier Region around El Calafate. There are a variety of tours to do in this area and it’s up to you how you spend your time in one of Argentina’s most beautiful areas. We can organise several private or shared tours according to your interests. One of our favourite private experiences here is an exclusive tour of the Perito Moreno Glacier. On the way to the glacier, keep your eyes open for wildlife like red and grey foxes, guanaco deer, Patagonian horses and armadillos.

A private tour of the Perito Moreno Glacier

With your private guide and vehicle take the beautiful drive to the Los Glaciares national park. Enjoy the view, including the Corner of Sighs, where you get your first full view of the Glacier. During the drive you might catch a glimpse of red and grey foxes in the heather, cinnamon-coloured guanaco deer on rocky crags and large Patagonian hares leaping from bushes and across streams.

Arriving at the humbling sight of the vast Perito Moreno Glacier, your guide will take you on a tour along the walkways. These give you superb viewpoints and photo taking opportunities while your guide brings to life the environmental and local importance of the glacier.

Day 14

An overnight in Buenos Aires

Return to the capital of Buenos Aires for a final night to enjoy the essence of Argentina; culture, food and music. This thriving city is the perfect place to end your trip where you can take a last walk around the beautiful boulevards, nip into a small cafe and enjoy time with your private guide on a choice of short tours that will fit perfectly with a layover here before departure.

“A Fantastic Exploration of Patagonia”

I wanted to discover Patagonia and Jacada put together a great 20-day itinerary for me that included Chile (Santiago and Torres del Paine) and Argentina (El Calafate, Chalten, Ushuaia and Buenos Aires). All of the activities suggested by Jacada turned out to be great experiences, the hotels and restaurants were excellent and the travel logistics went without a hitch. I…
