Luxury Greece Art, History and Culture Tours made for you

Bespoke history tours in Greece exploring art, architecture and archaeology

Ancient Greek art and architecture on expert-curated history tours

Greece’s landscapes are steeped in history and mythology. Its islands and coastlines, framed by mountains and olive trees, have inspired artists and architects for millennia. Its archaeological sites, including many UNESCO World Heritage sites, still carry echoes of the ancient past.

Explore Athens with a private guide and hear the myths and history behind the Acropolis, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Ancient Agora. We especially recommend visiting Delphi and the Temple of Apollo, believed by the ancient Greeks to mark the ‘navel of the world’.

On Crete, unlock the mysteries of the Cretan Labyrinth during an interactive, family-friendly visit to the Bronze Age Palace of Knossos. And step back to the first Olympic Games in Olympia, on the Peloponnese Peninsula, home to the temples of Zeus and Hera. Farther north, you can hike Mount Olympus, where the 12 Olympian gods were said to live.

In northern Greece, the Royal Tombs of Aigai in Vergina include the tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. Continue to Thessaloniki to see early Christian and Byzantine monuments such as the Rotunda and the Church of Saint Demetrius.

Where to go for cultural tours in Greece

When to visit Greece for cultural tours

Milder weather and thinner crowds make the shoulder seasons ideal for visiting Greece’s inland architectural monuments. The country typically enjoys sunshine from May to September, while some areas, including Crete and Rhodes, remain warm well into October. The peak summer months of July and August are often hot and busy. During this time, it’s best to stick to coastal areas, including the Greek islands and monuments such as the Temple of Poseidon, just outside Athens. January is typically best avoided, as many places are closed. However, the other winter months can be ideal for visiting museums and art galleries while they are relatively quiet.
