Don’t miss the Vasa Museum where you’ll get to see the remains of a shipwreck that lay at the bottom of the sea for 333 years. Then feel as though you’ve travelled back in time as you wander down hidden alleyways between old buildings in Gamla Stan. This is the land of Norsemen and Vikings, so keep your eyes open for hints of what this part of the world may have once looked like in the old buildings.
In Gothenburg you’ll find Liseberg, Scandinavia’s largest amusement park, which makes for a fun day out for the family. The city is also known for its film and music festivals, and in the evening the streets come alive as nightclubs open and live music venues turn up the volume. There are also many great restaurants to choose from and markets to browse.
If you want to get a feel for the magic and folklore of Sweden, then take a trip into the breathtakingly beautiful Swedish Lapland, where winter sees the trees heavy with snow and mountain trails brilliant green in summer. Learn about Sami culture, interact with reindeer, and go dog sledding. You can explore the snowy countryside on snowmobiles and even head out onto a frozen lake to try a spot of ice fishing.
