Luxury El Chalten Tours made for you
Embark on hiking adventures along trails framed by the pointed peaks of Argentine Patagonia
Argentina’s climbing and trekking capital
Once a remote outpost, the village of El Chalten sits within the Los Glaciares National Park, at the foot of the Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre mountains. Their spiky, ice-capped peaks pierce the sky, creating a dramatic profile that dominates the horizon.
This location has made El Chalten one of Argentina’s premier hiking destinations. A variety of trails lace through the landscape, from challenging full-day treks to half-day options and shorter routes.
Our travel designers have hiked here themselves, and will give you detailed insight into the different ways to reach Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. They’ll also introduce you to some lesser-known El Chalten hikes that take you deep into the wild, isolated expanse of Patagonia.
You can head through lenga forests to admire the 20-metre-high Cascada Margarita waterfall as it thunders onto the rocks. Or find yourself gazing out over hanging glaciers that cling to the granite slopes and occasionally calve into the pristine lakes below.
Another of our favourite things to do in El Chalten is kayak down the Rio de las Vueltas. Paddling along its winding, glacial waters is an adventurous way to get a different view of the landscape.
You can visit this region as part of a longer itinerary through Patagonia. Alternatively, combine it with time in other parts of Argentina and the wider South American continent. Get in touch with our experts to start planning your luxury El Chalten tour today.

When to visit El Chalten
The best time to visit El Chalten is during the summer months between December and February. Long daylight hours, pleasant temperatures (15–18℃) and clear weather create fantastic conditions for hiking. The shoulder seasons of September to December and February to April are cooler and more peaceful. They also offer the chance to see Patagonia’s blossoming spring flowers or fiery autumn leaves. Winter can be very cold in Patagonia, and while the snowy scenery is striking, adverse weather conditions make many hiking routes inaccessible.
