Lower Zambezi

Luxury Safaris in Lower Zambezi made for you

Experience the best of Zambia with a private journey designed just for you

A pristine river wilderness

The Lower Zambezi National Park borders Zimbabwe in the south-eastern section of Zambia. The park itself covers an area of 4092 square kilometers, but most of the game is concentrated along the valley floor. Home to around 50 mammal species and 400 bird species, the park is known for its elephant population. Notable animals include elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, and various antelope species.

Huge herds of elephant are often seen at the river’s edge and can be as significant as one hundred members of a family. You will also likely see another of the Big Five, the ‘Island hopping’ buffalo which roam freely in vast numbers.

The park also hosts good populations of lion and leopard and one of our favourite memories of this stunning area is the ubiquitous cry of the fish eagle. If you want to see giraffe though, your best bet is to twin this safari destination with one of the other many stunning parks in Zambia. Protected by the Zambian Government and local tour operators, the area was declared a National Park in 1983.
